Like a lot of things in life, there’s pros and cons to capitalism. The bad: CEOs/stakeholders that only care about making money and are incentivized to take advantage of people. The good: people can vote with their dollar and it encourages innovation.
There’s been a large wave of vegan alternatives to hit the market in the past couple years. Compared to 10 years ago, these are leaps and bounds better. Impossible meat has been solid and keeps making new products. I just got recommended this Omni Pork from Hong Kong that has an amazing spam product. I’ve also recently come across butter that for the first time doesn’t make me miss the original. Wildbrine and Miyoko’s oat butter is amazing. The Macadamia butter is solid too.
Cheese still has a ways to go. It never has the right texture or the taste. There’s some that can melt similarly and have somewhat a cheese taste, but I’d rather not have it. Vegan cream cheese is by far the worst. It’s a pretty amazing product in dairy format, so far the vegan subs are revolting.
Vegan alternatives have definitely been a big place for innovation so it’s only going to get better. Most of the meat and animal products have reached a ceiling, so they can’t get much better. For me personally, it was a lot easier to stop eating dairy and eggs than I thought it would be. And it’s only going to get easier.
We like Chao Creamery's "Creamy Original" slices. They're somewhat capable of melting enough for omelettes, bagel pizzas, and quesadillas.
